A Dhaka tribunal has set September 7 as day for hearing arguments in the murder case for Buet student Abrar Fahad.
Judge Abu Zafar Md Kamruzzaman of the Speedy Trial Tribunal-1 of Dhaka set the date for hearing arguments in the case today, following the end of six defense witnesses.
The tribunal had already taken statements by 45 prosecution witnesses, including the case's plaintiff.
Special Public Prosecutor Abu Abdullah Bhuiyan told The Daily Star that they will try to finish the arguments within five to seven days. He also said that both parties' arguments will be completed by September. Then, according to Abu, the judgment will be delivered.
Abrar, a second-year student at Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (Buet), was beaten to death in a dormitory on October 7, 2019, by a group of Buet unit's Chhatra League men.
On October 7 of that year, Abrar's father, Barkatullah, filed a murder case with the Chawkbazar Police Station.
The twenty-two suspects was already arrested and remanded multiple times. On various dates throughout the investigation, eight of the accused made confessional confessions to magistrates.
Mustaba Rafid, Muhammad Morshed-Uz-Zaman Mondol alias Jishan, and Ehtashamul Rabbi Tanim are three other suspects who have been on the run since the attack.
